Justin S. Green Commissioner District 1 | County Of Santa Fe
The Santa Fe County Clerk's Office successfully completed the Española Public School District Special Election, which concluded on April 1, 2025. The election sought voter approval for renewing the Public School Capital Improvements Tax, set at $2.00 per $1,000 of net taxable property value, with funds directed towards district improvements through 2030.
Santa Fe County Clerk Katharine E. Clark expressed her satisfaction with the process, stating, "I’m incredibly proud of our team for executing the Española School District Special Election without a hitch." She praised her team for their professionalism and dedication to maintaining fair and accessible elections across New Mexico.
Ballots for the election were due by 7 p.m. on April 1, and the County Canvassing Board plans to certify the results on April 8. The Clerk's Office handled the mailing, collection, and processing of ballots, following state election laws.
On Election Day, unofficial results from the Santa Fe County portion showed that 3,117 ballots were sent, 428 received, and 24 rejected. Among the received ballots, 220 were in favor, and 184 against the renewal. Voters with rejected ballots are being contacted to start the ballot curing process, which allows for correction of issues like missing signatures or identification. Notifications are sent via mail, phone, or email, and voters must respond within the legal timeframe for their vote to be counted.
