Participants preparing for the annual pilgrimage to the Santuario de Chimayó are encouraged to utilize a comprehensive checklist to ensure their journey is both safe and successful. Given the potential limitations in cell phone service as pilgrims near the destination, they are advised to arrange a communication plan with someone in advance.

In preparation, individuals are advised to share their intended routes, set check-in points, and plan for pick-up and drop-off locations, considering possible heavy traffic congestion. As the event approaches, awareness of road closures and weather forecasts is essential for making necessary adjustments.

For low-light conditions, pilgrims should wear bright clothing, carry flashlights or glow sticks, and consider using reflective safety gear. Comfort is also prioritized—comfortable shoes, staying on pedestrian paths, and ensuring hydration with ample water and snacks are recommended.

Pilgrims are advised to walk in groups for safety and remain off roadways and highway medians. Transportation support might be available through special services provided by the North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD) Blue Bus, with up-to-date schedules available at RideTheBlueBus.org. Motorists should plan for significant delays when traveling to and around Chimayó.
