Highlights from the Week of August 16, 2021
There's a lot going on in the City Different!
SF Women's Commission Announces Strategic Plan
IN RECOGNITION of the immense contribution women make to the culture, economic success and positive growth of the City of Santa Fe, and the challenges and inequities they face, Mayor Webber and the City Council established the Women’s Commission by Resolution in 2019. The Commission’s purpose is to assess and make recommendations for ways to improve the City’s programs and policies in order to strengthen the quality of life of women and girls so they can thrive personally and professionally.
The Commission's strategic plan was presented to the Quality of life Committee on Wednesday night; find it in English and Spanish. The Commission will assess barriers women and girls face, and make evidence-based and data-informed recommendations for improving City programs, policies, services, spending, ordinances, and practices to advance gender equity.
The 5-year strategic plan is designed to advance:
- community outreach and engagement;
- interdepartmental and cross-sector collaboration;
- key priority areas, such as education, housing, public transportation, and city services;
- pay equity and professional advancement;
- health and reproductive justice.
The Women’s Commission meets monthly on the second Tuesday of each month from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Find the meeting announcements here, and for more information reach out to Anna Cale Pendas, Project Administrator, Youth Family Services; axcale@santafenm.gov.
MAYOR'S NOTE:
Santa Fe At
Our Best
Spanish Market, Indian Market, Fiesta, Zozobra -- what a powerful lineup of events that celebrate the history and cultural richness of Santa Fe. There's no place else that has deep historical roots that continue to nourish our contemporary quality of life. There is no other place that measures up to our cultural vitality. This is what Santa Fe is really all about.
When you celebrate Fiesta or the burning of Zozobra next month, you'll be taking part in events that have no counterparts anywhere else in the country. You're upholding traditions that endure because they are worthy and heartfelt.
When you attend our amazing markets and celebrations, think of all the generations, families, histories and current artists you’re meeting. For so many artists, their work is a culmination of generations whose skills, beliefs, and values have been passed down through time.
Authenticity, diversity, creativity, and respect for tradition are Santa Fe's core strengths. We all owe a debt of gratitude to the artists, organizers, and participants who sustain our culture, who enrich our lives, and who remind us of who we are and what we share.
So enjoy the festivities, stay safe, and burn that viral gloom away!

Watershed Moment
Many hands make light work! Our River and Watershed Section teamed up with volunteers from the Santa Fe Watershed Association and several other nonprofits to cleanup a stretch of the Santa Fe River earlier this week. The crew filled up a trailer (courtesy of the Parks Division) with debris in just a few hours time – a huge thanks to everyone who came out to give back!
Golf FORE Kids Tourney
The 23rd Annual FORE Kids Scholarship Golf Tournament tees off with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start on Friday, August 27, at Marty Sanchez Links. Funds raised will go to recreational activities for youth who could not otherwise afford to participate. The goal is to attract 100 golfers to play in the tournament. And, there's a driving contest too. Get a team together or enter solo and contact alobrodsky@gmail.com to register.
