County Lifts All Fire Restrictions

County lifts all fire restrictions

The Fire Marshal’s Office with the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) announced today that all fire restrictions for Los Alamos County are lifted, effective immediately. According to officials, this decision was made in partnership with LAFD’s Wildland Division after reviewing recent rainfall events, fuel moisture, fire activity levels, and current or predicted weather patterns.

With fire restrictions lifted, thanks to the early onset of monsoonal weather patterns, individuals can once again recreate at county parks or developed campsites. They may even build and maintain campfires or utilize grills with charcoal briquets. However, Fire Marshal officials urge visitors to use common sense and exercise caution when recreating outdoors to minimize the chance of human-caused wildfires.

Santa Fe National Forest will rescind its Stages 2 and 3 fire restrictions for most of the 1.6-million-acre forest effective June 24.

For questions, community members are welcome to contact the Fire Marshal at 662-8305.
